Knowledge of each other is knowledge for the machines
Each session begins with an introduction to the play origins and conceptual background 15 minutes, followed by one hour of gameplay exploring various themes of the game, and will finish up with a 15 minute debrief. Everyone is welcome welcome to join at any time; come and explore these unique interrogations of ontologies, conceptual models, game and play together!
The Playing with Meanings (PwM) workshop explores the interaction design methodologies of game and play, participatory processes and co-design for learning, developing and using semantics and ontologies. The goals of this work shop are to (i) reflect on the challenges of learning and applying ontological notions, (i) introduce the notions of game, play and embodied sense-making, (iii) engage hands-on with a series of ontology-driven games and activities (iv) and experiment with ontology-based tangible artefacts as participatory research tools for social and environmental sustainability. The workshop is structured around staged group interactions focused on formal and applied ontologies and ontology-driven conceptual models. We will introspect on the dispositions of games and play to create space, structure communication, and reveal complex ity as accessible and fun. We will also share our practice of developing interaction scripts to unpack conceptual models and ontological notions, and to facilitate participatory knowledge elicitation sessions. Workshop scripts can be reused and adapted to many knowledge engineering situations and participants will gain the theoretical understandings and hands-on experience to design and deploy their own ontology-based group interactions.
